Meet Amanda
Dr. Amanda J. Visek is a self-described Army brat, and cross-disciplinary educated, United States-based sport professional whose formative years were lived and played in Europe.
FUN FACT
My middle name is Joy. What is interesting about middle names is they are often forgotten in day-to-day life, surfacing only on rare occasions when one’s full legal name is required. Mine, though, sits at the center of my name, its presence a steady North Star.
Since Ancient Olympia, joy has guided sport in much the same way, measured in no small part by how much fun it is. Its presence keeps us in sport; its absence is often why we walk away. One of my greatest sporting challenges has been transforming something that was not so fun into one of my greatest joys.
Meet Monna
Dr. Monna Arvinen-Barrow is a Finland-born & raised, United Kingdom-educated, and United States-based sport professional.
FUN FACT
My competitive sporting career started at the age of six when I saw a newspaper advertisement for figure skating lessons in my hometown of Vantaa, Finland.
The ad had a picture of a smiling raccoon with skates on and a striped scarf around its neck. The raccoon looked like it was having fun so I begged my parents to let me skate. Lucky for me, they thought it would be a good way to use up extra energy. After the first lesson, I was hooked.
