Meet Amanda
Dr. Amanda J. Visek is a cross-disciplinary educated, United States-based sport professional whose formative years were lived and played in Europe as an Army brat.
FUN FACT
My middle name is Joy. What is interesting about middle names is they are often forgotten, surfacing only when one’s full legal name is required. Mine, though, is ever present, always a steady North Star.
Since Ancient Olympia, joy has guided sport in much the same way, revealed in how fun sport is for us. It’s no secret fun is what keeps us in sport and its absence why we walk away. We know when we are having it and certainly when we are not. And yet, some of the most fun moments are the ones we never saw coming.
Meet Monna
Dr. Monna Arvinen-Barrow is a Finland-born & raised, United Kingdom-educated, and United States-based sport professional.
FUN FACT
My competitive sporting career started at the age of six when I saw a newspaper advertisement for figure skating lessons in my hometown of Vantaa, Finland.
The ad had a picture of a smiling raccoon with skates on and a striped scarf around its neck. The raccoon looked like it was having fun so I begged my parents to let me skate. Lucky for me, they thought it would be a good way to use up extra energy. After the first lesson, I was hooked.
